Alex took the day off last Friday for his Birthday. I, unfortunately, did not have that option and had to go to work. Even though he had the luxury of being able to sleep in, he insisted that I wake him before I went to work so that he could open his presents. Then he could play with all the new toys I got for him during the day.
So, at 6:10 am, my trusty alarm clock went off and I woke up Alex (as requested) with a special birthday song (not requested). The following was what transpired:
Me: You’ve had a birthday, shout “Hooray” . . . Honey, shout hooray!
Alex: No
Me: We want to sing to you today. One year older and wiser too! Happy Birthday . . . Honey, clap . . .
Alex: No
Me: to you!!!
Unbeknownst to me, he had been up ‘till 3:30 am working the night before and had changed his mind about wanting to get up early and open presents. Well, I still made him get up and open his gifts because I wanted to see the expression on his face while he opened them.
He was expressionless.
Then, I brought in his birthday cheesecake (from Cheesecake Factory), and we shared a piece while watching “Saved by the Bell.” He then went back to bed and I got up to get ready for the day.
Later that day during my lunch break, I called him to see how his day was going. He told me about how he loved the presents and apologized for being so grumpy that morning.
He then told me that he was so excited to eat his birthday cheesecake later that day. When I explained to him that we had already had his birthday cheesecake that morning, he had no recollection of eating it! He had missed out on the entire cheesecake experience! Poor guy . . . guess he’ll have to wait again until next year.
Happy Birthday Honey!

This is the best blog ever. I would say your alone in this sleep time fun, but I may be as bad as Alex. Poor Noah has to deal with my talking and moaning every night. Its worse when I am pregnant too.
That is too funny. It's a good thing he has a wonderful wife to treat him to such a nice and early morning birthday celebration. :-)
